An MRI scan is recommended to identify the pain-causing target in your spine and obtain the best results from the spinal injections. If you have not had an MRI after the start of your recent back or neck pain, then our specialist in Northampton can refer you for an urgent private MRI scan following a brief telephone consultation. We do not perform MRI scans, and your referral will be sent to another private provider. Once we obtain your MRI results, we will book you an “Advanced One-Stop Appointment” for your treatment.

There is no need for complete rest, however, we will advise you to reduce your activity level significantly for a week at the least to obtain the best results from the injection.

You should not drive immediately after the injection. Please organise a pick-up or arrange a taxi to return home.

Your appointment will be a “one stop shop” in which our Musculoskeletal Specialist in Northampton will carry out a physical examination and ultrasound scanning to diagnose your problem. You will have plenty of opportunity to discuss your care with our specialist prior to proceeding with your injection.

Unlike other injectable treatments for osteoarthritis in the knee joint, results from the hydrogel injection are long acting and clinical trials have shown maintained results at 3 year follow-up period.

Hydrogel injection is a non-biodegradable technology and therefore it does not degrade. It is a “one-off” procedure that is aimed to give long-acting symptom relief.

Hydrogel injection is not recommended if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
