RAD CLINICS JOINT INJECTIONS

Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA)

DIAGNOSTIC sCAN, uLTRASOUND-GUIDED INJECTION, & A REPORT IN THE SAME APPOINTMENT

What is it and how it works?

Fine needle aspiration is performed to drain collections such as cyst, swelling or abscess that can occur in the body due to various reasons. Usually, aspiration under ultrasound guidance is a gold standard method to drain a cyst or collection as an x-ray will not reveal fluid or soft tissue structures in the body. Also, ultrasound scan will differentiate other lesions such as aneurysms in the blood vessels and solid lumps, which can often appear like a cyst. Ultrasound scan can also help to avoid injury to other nearby structures. Our Musculoskeletal Specialists have more than 20 years of experience in managing various MSK conditions and they perform more than 3000 scans and ultrasound-guided injections yearly in various hospitals across the East and West Midlands.
